Well, here we are with a slight return to the heady years of 1976 and the notion that you’re never too old to rock and roll.

Remixed by Steven Wilson and unleashing upon an unprepared fan base the additional tracks, TV show recordings as well as other goodies, this collection brings back memories for me at any rate.

Unfortunately, some memories have not returned to their rightful owner as I have little recollection of even recording the additional archive tracks. But there they are in glorious analogue multi-track form so it must have really happened. Enjoy and suck in the heady air of the seventies and promise not to laugh at the silly cozies and the hair-sprayed mane.

What’s in the box…
Too Old To Rock ‘n’ Roll, Too Young To Die! – The TV Special Edition Deluxe features a previously unreleased re-recorded version of the album for a 1976 UK TV special.

It additionally contains original LP tracks and rare associated recordings, plus 2015 5.1 and stereo mixes by Steven Wilson.

Also included:

* flat transfers of the original album as well as a host of rare associated recordings including previously unreleased material.

* the previously commercially unavailable original TV footage with DTS, Dolby Digital Surround Sound and Dolby Digital Stereo sound.

* the TV audio in 96/24 stereo PCM, alongside a host of other associated recordings in surround and 96/24.

* an extensive 80 page booklet including an essay by Martin Webb on the preparation and recording of the album in Brussels and Monte Carlo, the aborted stage musical, the London Weekend TV special and the 1976 tours. The booklet also contains a track by track annotation by Ian Anderson, lyrics, a feature on Ian Anderson and his motorbikes, Dave Gibbons on drawing the LP’s cartoon inner spread and ‘From Carmen to Tullman’ – The Musical Life of John Glascock, unseen photos and lots more.

Es una pena que solo hayan aparecido las grabaciones originales de medio disco, ya que esos temas (que vienen cerrando el primer CD) quedan soberbios

La versión regrabada del album para ese "TV Special" está fenomenal!!!. Aunque intenta ser fiel al disco original existen bastantes diferencias (especialmente en algunos temas como "salamander", en el que esas obvias diferencias seguro son intencionadas). Los arreglos de orquesta casan mucho mejor, el bajo y coros de John Glascock están más presentes, la guitarra de Barre ahora sí se escucha más, etc.
El disco (al menos para mí) adquiere otro aire mucho más fresco y animado... es casi "otro" disco
 
Es que al escuchar la "original album flat transfer" presente en el CD segundo no he podido evitar poner mi primitivo CD noventero (no tengo este disco en vinilo) y he comprobado que sonaba bastante mal en origen, con poca nitidez... suena como "apagado", sin brillo, vamos, a mi juicio el mismo problema que tenía en origen el disco tales from topografic oceans de Yes, solventado totalmente con la reedición de Rhino de 2003 (y con la "japo" shm)

Conclusión: los fanáticos tullianos no pueden dejar escapar esto!!!, ese "medio disco" y la fenomenal regrabación merecen mucho la pena  :temblar: ..... (...y esto recomendado sin hablar del segundo CD que trae esas "associated recordings" y los deuvedeses)

.... y para los que no gustáis tanto de este disco, deberíais darle nuevas oportunidades a la reedición de 2002, que suena bastante bien y trae "strip cartoon"  :latigo:

Respecto a esas "associeted recordings", las dos canciones inéditas "salamander's rag time" (no tiene nada que ver con "salamander") y "comercial traveller" son otras dos nuevas genialidades andersonianas.
De las conocidas, la demo de "too old..." donde se indica a David Palmer la línea a seguir con los arreglos (escúchese la sencilla guitarra eléctrica), la versión orquestada de "a small cigar" y esa primera grabación de "one brown mouse" (que posteriormente aparecería en heavy horses) valen su peso en oro.
Respecto a ésta última, grabada tres meses después del disco, tiene al final un teclado con un timbre muy parecido al que utilizará David Palmer en songs from the wood y en las presentaciones posteriores en vivo que he escuchado-visto

Los deuvedeses apenas pude escucharlos-verlos en condiciones (solo una jugosa pasada rápida), han de esperar al fin de semana pero la cosa promete, promete  :socorro:

Una pregunta, que es original album flat transfer? Yo entiendo trasferencia plana del album original. Es una remezcla? Es el original sin tocar?
