Habelard2 - Macchie di Inchiostro su Carta Sensibile (Italia -2024)

En setiembre de 2022 comenté el álbum ¨Punti di Vista¨ del músico multi-instrumentista italiano Sergio Caleca. En aquel momento me había agradado mucho su trabajo y así lo establecí en la reseña ( https://sinfomusic.net/foro_rockprogresivo/index.php?topic=2495.msg87613#msg87613)  mediante la cual intenté acercarme a su obra y difundirla en Sinfomusic. Un par de años más tarde, vuelvo a reencontrarme con este talentoso artista : el 25 de abril se estrenó ¨Macchie di Inchiostro su Carta Sensibile¨ (Manchas de tinta en papel sensible), el cual es su nuevo disco (precioso y sugerente título, sin dudas). Es una realidad indesmentible que Caleca es un creador prolífico ya que ¨M.d.I.s.C.S.¨ se constituye en su treceavo larga duración y descubro en él la misma calidad y buen gusto para componer que ya le conocía. Éste es un ejemplar muy disfrutable, delicado, de hermosa música, que recorre como en su anterior trabajo el prog, el new age y el sonido sinfónico. Definitivamente es muy recomendable.

In September 2022 I reviewed the album ¨Punti di Vista¨ by the Italian multi-instrumentalist musician Sergio Caleca. At that time I had really liked his work and I established it in the review (https://sinfomusic.net/foro_rockprogresivo/index.php?topic=2495.msg87613#msg87613) through which I tried to get closer to his work  and share it on Sinfomusic. A couple of years later, I meet again with this talented artist: on April 25, ¨Macchie di Inchiostro su Carta Sensibile¨ (Ink stains on sensitive paper) was released, which is his new album (beautiful and suggestive title, without a doubt). It is an undeniable reality that Caleca is a prolific creator since ¨M.d.I.s.C.S.¨ is his thirteenth full-length and I discover in him the same quality and good taste in composing that I already knew from him. This is a very enjoyable, delicate piece of beautiful music, which, as in his previous work, covers prog, new age and symphonic sound. It is definitely highly recommended.

The Tangent - To Follow Polaris (Inglaterra - 2024)

El 10 de mayo se estrenó el nuevo trabajo de The Tangent. Tal como había mencionado con anterioridad, Tillison se hizo cargo de todos los instrumentos, la composición y vocalización, por lo que es en realidad un emprendimiento en solitario del talentoso artista. Le he dedicado bastante tiempo a su  audición ya que el objetivo era aclarar mis ideas con respecto a lo que el álbum me transmitió. No es el mejor disco de Tillison, pero es un buen disco. Pienso que ¨Songs From The Hard Shoulder¨ de 2022 es superior musicalmente a este ¨To Follow Polaris¨. No obstante, aquí el músico da rienda suelta a recursos de variada índole, otorgándose tiempo para intercalar algún segmento exploratorio y, en otros tramos, ¨oscurecer¨ su música. La conclusión final es que no se debe dejar de prestar atención a ningún trabajo de Andy Tillison, porque su indiscutible calidad siempre está presente : ¨To Follow Polaris¨ tiene ¨sorpresas¨ para descubrir, sobre todo en el polifacético tema de 21 minutos de duración (The Anachronism) donde expone su amplia creatividad. Sin dudas, recomendable.

On May 10, The Tangent's new work was released. As I had previously mentioned, Tillison handled all the instruments, songwriting and vocals, so it is really a solo venture by the talented artist. I have dedicated a lot of time to listening to it since the objective was to clarify my ideas regarding what the album conveyed to me. It's not Tillison's best album, but it's a good album. I think ¨Songs From The Hard Shoulder¨ from 2022 is musically superior to this ¨To Follow Polaris¨. However, here the musician gives free rein to resources of various kinds, giving himself time to include some exploratory segment and, in other sections, "darken" his music. The final conclusion is that you should not stop paying attention to any work by Andy Tillison, because his unquestionable quality is always present: ¨To Follow Polaris¨ has ¨surprises¨ to discover, especially in the multifaceted 21-minute track (The Anachronism) where he exposes his wide creativity. Without a doubt, recommended.

Tal como había anunciado aquí oportunamente, la notable banda inglesa Slowly Rolling Camera estrenará nuevo disco este año. El lanzamiento se hará efectivo el 26 de julio próximo. ¨Silver Shadow¨ contiene 8 canciones y al habitual trío de músicos se suma, nuevamente,  el finlandés Verneri Pohjola  en trompeta.

John Carpenter - Lost Themes IV: Noir (U.S.A. - 2024)

El pasado3 de mayo se estrenó el último álbum del famoso músico John Carpenter. En este caso, como lo dice el título, ¨Lost Themes IV : Noir¨ es el cuarto volumen correspondiente a una serie de trabajos inspirados en películas de suspenso y terror que, según el propio Carpenter, pueden haber sido filmadas o no. La música que vamos a encontrar es prog cinematográfico, si es que cabe el término. Su hijo Cody (del que he comentado varios de sus discos) y su nieto Daniel colaboraron en la interpretación de los 10 temas que componen el ejemplar y han aportado bonitos solos de guitarra e intensos ritmos electrónicos. ¨L.T.IV.N.¨ es un atendible álbum que tiene buenos momentos, con la advertencia a los oyentes de que los films ... corren por su cuenta.

On May 3rd, the latest album by the famous musician John Carpenter was released. In this case, as the title says, ¨Lost Themes IV : Noir¨ is the fourth volume corresponding to a series of works inspired by suspense and horror movies that, according to Carpenter himself, may or may not have been filmed. The music we are going to find is cinematic prog, if the term fits. His son Cody (of whom I have commented on several of his albums) and his grandson Daniel collaborated in the interpretation of the 10 tracks that make up the copy and have contributed beautiful guitar solos and intense electronic rhythms. ¨L.T.IV.N.¨ is an album worthy of attention that has good moments, with the warning to the listeners that the films ... are on their own.

Eminence Ensemble - Inside Looking Out (U.S.A. - 2024)

Si analizo el porqué de esta reseña, me sobran las razones. El sonido de Eminence Ensemble no es exactamente prog, pero también lo es. Entre un sinnúmero de géneros, estos músicos de Denver abrazan el R&B, el reggae, el rock melódico, el funk y aún más. Con preciosos juegos vocales, (siendo éste el pilar fundamental de la banda) y 10 melodías brillantemente interpretadas, acompañadas de una muy cálida instrumentación, este álbum editado el pasado marzo me terminó de seducir totalmente. La música no debería etiquetarse, parece decirnos. Un manto de calidad e inspiración nos cubre agradablemente con la reproducción de ¨Inside Looking Out¨: gran disco de este 2024. Absolutamente recomendable.

If I analyze the reason for this review, I really have a lot to spare. Eminence Ensemble's sound isn't exactly prog, but it also is. Among countless genres, these Denver musicians embrace R&B, reggae, melodic rock, funk and even more. With beautiful vocal combinations (this being the fundamental pillar of the band) and 10 brilliantly performed melodies, accompanied by a very warm instrumentation, this album released last March completely seduced me. Music shouldn't be labeled, it seems to tell us. A mantle of quality and inspiration pleasantly covers us with the reproduction of ¨Inside Looking Out¨: great album of this 2024. Absolutely recommended.

Si recuerdan el nombre de la banda Slowly Rolling Camera, cuyo álbum ¨Flow¨ fue seleccionado por este comentarista como uno de los mejores del 2023, entonces les interesará saber que en el próximo mes de julio se estrenará un nuevo trabajo de estos excelentes músicos  : el disco se llamará ¨Silver Shadow¨. Wheel - Charismatic Leaders  (Finlandia - 2024)

Wheel ha madurado. Sin duda alguna. Este nuevo trabajo, el tercero de estudio de la banda finlandesa, me ha dejado muy conforme. Un sonido intenso, prog-metal, con excelentes vocalizaciones, luciendo una base rítmica poderosa y contundente, acertando en las melodías, hacen de ¨Charismatic Leaders¨ un gran disco de este año. La impresión que me dejó al oirlo por primera vez se confirmó luego con las siguientes escuchas. Conformado por 7 temas, tiene una duración total de 47 minutos. La tremenda potencia que despliega la banda es controlada por los mismos músicos, encausándola en potentes composiciones. Este álbum es el paso adelante que necesitaba dar Wheel, constituyéndose en una banda al nivel de las mejores del rock actual. Estrenado el 3 de mayo, es imperdible para los amantes del género.

Wheel has matured. No doubt about it. This new work, the third studio release of the Finnish band, has left me very satisfied. An intense prog-metal sound, with excellent vocalizations, showing off a powerful and forceful rhythmic base, getting the melodies right, make ¨Charismatic Leaders¨ a great album of this year. The impression I had when I heard it for the first time was confirmed with the following listens. Made up of 7 songs, it has a total duration of 47 minutes. The tremendous power displayed by the band is controlled by the musicians themselves, channeling it into powerful compositions. This album is the step forward that Wheel needed to take, becoming a band at the level of the best of today's rock. Released on May 3, it is a must for lovers of the genre.

Crystal Palace - Dawn Of Eternity   (Alemania - 2016)

Este notable grupo alemán está en el  mismo nivel de calidad de Methodica (2014) y que Subsignal (2015) : un rock progresivo de gran riqueza instrumental, junto a una grabacion espectacular, nos sorprende en 2016 con este álbum llamado ¨Dawn to the Eternity¨. A medida que nos adentramos en el disco, éste va creciendo en inspiración y fuerza. Magnífico, sin lugar a dudas, lo coloca a la par de las grandes bandas de progresivo del momento. Este cuarterto de músicos tuvo su comienzo en el 94-95 y ya han generado unos 8 o 9 larga duracion. Obviamente no son recién llegados al ruedo del rock. Aquí la propuesta es de enorme calidad y su manejo del sonido es absolutamente profesional. Escucharlo es obligatorio para los que vibramos con esta música. Un gran ejemplar, para darle potencia a los parlantes hasta que estallen.
